Real World Experience with Life Changing Results

Washington Business Week Programs (not a magazine) are held in the summer for a full week on college campuses around the state. The programs teach high school students about their role in the business world. No matter what their career choice is, Business Week's experimental learning model engages and advances their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. In addition to the regular Business Week Program, special pathway programs are available in Healthcare, Energy, Manufacturing and Agriculture.

It is an amazing opportunity for students to explore potential careers. For instance, students and volunteer business leaders are immersed in discussions, role-playing exercises, lectures, and computer based business simulation. They work in groups that present a realistic picture of the business world. Add in a good amount of fun, critical thinking, innovation, a chance to explore a college campus, and earn two college level credits and it's a winning combination! The Dairy Farmers of Washington and Les Schwab Tires in conjunction with the WIAA proudly present the Smart Choices Scholarship Program. This annual program recognizes one male and one female graduating senior from among the WIAA member high schools for excellence in athletics/activities, academics, leadership and community service throughout his and her high school career. Smart Choices winners receive a $5,000 scholarship toward the institution of his and her choosing.

For the second consecutive year, a Washington dairy farm is the recipient of an Outstanding Dairy Farm Sustainability Award, one of the six U.S. Dairy Sustainability Awards announced on April 24, 2013, in Washington, D.C. The awards recognize dairy farms and other dairy industry businesses for practices that advance the industry’s commitment to healthy products, healthy communities and a healthy planet. Bill Wavrin, a Mabton Dairy Farmer and veterinarian, was featured on the highly acclaimed PBS series, America's Heartland. The America's Heartland crew filmed the segment on Wavrin's Sunny Dene Dairy Farm and as he made a veterinary visit to Tom DeVries' dairy in Moxee.
